Art of Drinks

Guinness Collectibles

Guinness collectibles reflect the company's faith in its long and reliable reputation for beer, ale and stout. The consistency of its products are reflected in its advertising, which tends to be traditional (don't fix what ain't broke).

Collectibles include shirts, tankards, prints, trays, signs, and the always-recognizable Guinness glass. Except for prints, drawn from the Guinness advertising archives, where there is a good deal of visual variety, logos derived from Guinness labels dominate items. Slogans are few--"Goodness, Guinness!" and "Lovely Day for a Guinness" predominate. Silly animals come and go, the oldest being the Guinness pelican and the longest-lived being the Guinness toucan.

In the spirit of long availability at pubs, signage tends toward metal, often tin. Again, label-recognition plays a strong role. Neon is harder to come by in Guinness collectibles--it is, after all, rather hard to imagine quiet British Isles pubs ablaze in neon light.

Understandably, the famous Guinness harp is hard to find in bar-related items, at least in the U.S. Searching Irish or British collectibles sites may yield more variety.
